The University of Illinois Chicago’s Office of Community Relations has partnered with a Pilsen community organization to provide area youth ages 12 to 18 with access to swimming pools and athletic fields, combined with brief educational talks, during weekly visits to campus this summer.
The pilot program, called Summer of Fun @ UIC, will partner with Luv City, a Chicago-based production company that gives at-risk youth a creative outlet to express themselves, along with coordination support from the offices of 25th Ward Ald. Byron Sigcho-Lopez, to provide transportation to and from the UIC Physical Education Building, where the facilities are housed.
